THE UNION COUNCIL
Democratic life within the STTRC is more than a wish; it is part of its values, its DNA. And this democratic life is embodied by the Union Council.
It is made up of delegates elected by the members of their section for a 3-year term
They are the most important link in our union. Because they are the link between the members and the union leadership, they are at the heart of union action. The recipe is simple : with 3,000 members, we are almost everywhere. There is therefore no reason why the
union organization and our officers should not be aware of what is or is not happening within the walls of the SRC.
Being informed is the crux of the matter; it means ensuring that we can act proactively and preventively.
Delegates must therefore maintain effective communication channels with the members of their section and quickly relay the information received to the union leadership. They must also be able to advise the members of the union leadership to help them make good decisions.
The establishment of local labour relations committees increasingly places your section representatives at the heart of the action. It is during these meetings that issues specific to the section are discussed with the manager in charge: work organization, climate, training needs and even questions relating to professional development. In this context, delegates become agents of change.
They are also responsible for preparing the necessary documents in the event of disputes and/or grievances. The delegate is responsible for conducting a summary investigation and collaborates in drafting the grievance.
Finally, at the request of a member, he or she can accompany them to meetings with management.
It is for all this, and for the sympathetic ear available, on good days as well as bad ones, that the work of delegate is essential in an organization like ours.
